My reasons.
So I have been thinking a lot about some things. Big surprise right? I'm a thinker and an on any given day I have about twenty ideas that I think are really good ( and forty-two quantillion ideas that are pretty lame, but whatever). I stew over my good ideas and I try and realistically plan to make them happen. Sometimes it's easy, like my plan to buy toilet paper between other errands or a craft idea I want to try with the kids.

Other times the idea is bigger and requires more thought.

A few months ago, an idea came. It was right around the time of the horrifying shooting at Newtown Elementary. All of us were shell-shocked and swimming around in our brains wondering how we make this world better amidst such heart exploding tragedy. I was trying to hold my heart and my love as physically close as possible because I couldn't find comfort anywhere else. I would wring my hands. I needed to do something. But what could any of us actually do? So I wrote a post about places that could use our help. But then it ocurred to me that I couldn't just go volunteer so easily. Not unless these organizations didn't mind my kids coming too and that wasn't going to be pretty. I mean, you've read this blog, right?

So my brain started sputtering out ideas. How can I actually make a difference? Little old me with my little old blog. I want to help. I mean, I'm a social worker you guys. It's kind of in my DNA, but I don't think I am alone in this. I think it's human nature. People are good. They really are. I want to make a difference.

And I think you do too.

So....my big idea. I finally decided how to put that into action. I believe in small acts of kindness. I believe that to do good in the lives of others it doesn't have to be a huge time consuming thing. We all have big lives too. Life can get hard and we can't always help. But...sometimes we can. And that's what I'm banking on.

So here's the plan....

Every so often I want to highlight someone that needs our help. Something that we can do to help just ONE person and maybe that will ripple out to others. One person or small organization that could use a hand or some fundraising for a good cause. I will present it here on the blog and also place the post onto a new page simply called Help Somebody. We'll see if it takes off. There will be kinks to work out, I'm sure. I have a story that I'm working on for next week to officially launch and I'm really excited about it. I hope you will consider joining me for these posts and help me spread the word about them.

I want your ideas. Your thoughts. Your expert advice. Because I'd love to build the community we have going on here and I think if we build it together, it can become really great. If we build it together we can make a real difference. And THAT would be soooo awesome.

What do you think? Talk to me...
