Cheap-Cheap (spelling intentional) is a singing chick. She sings about Easter and how much fun it is. And she is Plum's very best friend. She sings two verses and a chorus. Which seems excessive to me. Her cheeks light up and her musings are accompanied by a skippy little piece of music.
By skippy piece of music, I mean a carnival-like acid trip.
Cheap-Cheap and I are natural enemies. She infects my brain with her happiness and also triggers eye-twitching psychosis as I lay in bed at night unable to escape her. Her sunny song about coloring eggs on repeat in my brain. She sits on the edge of the bed mocking me. Waiting for her best friend to wake up and squeeze her belly and make her face light up.
I often wonder about the musician hired to sing Cheap-Cheap's song. I wonder if that person is depressed that they have a jingle singing career or if it's the perfect job for them. I wonder these things as I daydream about lighting Cheap-Cheap on fire. Do they go home and drink their sorrows away and lament her life's work? Or is it just a side gig that pays the bills? Or is it possible that they enjoy it?
Life's mysteries, I guess.
